Digital Engineering Twin

A Digital Engineering Twin is the digital representation of a physical product that is still under development. All the mechanical and electrical aspects of the product are modelled digitally. The goal is to make use of operational data to improve the product before it even reaches the commissioning stage.

WHAT IS IT?

Digital Engineering Twin is a useful tool when developing a product. A precise replica of the product is created using, for example, a CAD/CAM, CFD or FEM program. Whether or not the physical product already exists is immaterial. These programs enable various product properties to be precisely defined and analysed. Products can then be tested to see how they will respond to future external influences.

 

WHAT DOES IT DO?

First and foremost, the virtual commissioning exercise examines the physical appearance and features of the product, while the data gathered helps improve every aspect of it. Some typical applications of Digital Engineering Twins are crash tests, mock-ups and functional simulations.
