Create Technical Documentation Anywhere: Web-Based Version of SCHEMA ST4 Available Now

Published: 2023-12-11 Updated: 2023-12-12

Our content management system SCHEMA ST4 is now available as a web-based version: ST4 Web Author. With ST4 Web Author, technical documentation can be created directly in a web browser from anywhere. We have developed this new tool as part of its commitment to sustainably optimizing the way technical writers work and offering a pioneering solution for efficient and collaborative work.

ST4 Web Author is designed in such a way that it integrates perfectly into the existing workflows of SCHEMA ST4 users – be it for text creation, metadata maintenance, reuse, or node management. It not only makes work easier for experienced users, but also enables inexperienced or occasional users to get started without a hitch.

At the heart of the web version of SCHEMA ST4 is the system's own editor, which opens up new possibilities for easy writing. The user interface is exceptionally user-friendly, while it also offers the robustness and XML conformity that SCHEMA ST4 is so well known for. This also makes ST4 easier to use on the web than any other CCMS.

Powerful functions are key

With ST4 Web Author, it is possible to complete everyday tasks in a targeted and efficient way. Its clear design language allows technical writers to get the most out of SCHEMA ST4, while concentrating fully on creating outstanding content. Furthermore, ST4 Web Author allows multiple users to collaborate easily without the need for remote desktops or Citrix environments.

Switching between the tried and tested desktop solution and the powerful web version is straightforward – and is currently recommended by Quanos. With the full scope of familiar ST4 on-premise functionalities only gradually being transferred to the web, certain tasks currently still require switching between the two systems. For example, ST4 Web Author provides all the functions needed to start writing and organize content in the database, but parallel operation with the on-premise solution is still necessary to create publications, translations, and reviews.

Product development for the future

“With the introduction of SCHEMA ST4 on the web, we are strongly signaling our focus on sustainable and future-oriented product development in the field of technical documentation,” explains Sebastian Göttel, Product Manager ST4 at Quanos. “Our web-based solution makes it possible for users to work with SCHEMA ST4 from anywhere, while benefiting from a modern user interface and powerful functions.”

ST4 Web Author is aimed at technical writers from a wide range of industries, including machinery and plant construction, the automotive sector, medical engineering, and software development. The solution meets the needs of organizations that want the flexibility to take on new challenges and offer their employees the ability to work from anywhere – all without compromising on quality.
