Load the KISTERS 3D spare parts catalog up to three times faster
Your time is precious – which is why Quanos and KISTERS developed an option that also gives you faster access to large 3D models in your spare parts catalog. Learn our trick of achieving a significant improvement in the processing of your 3D data.
3D data are worth their weight in gold to developers and designers. To also make it possible for the service technicians, support employees, and customers of machine construction companies to benefit from 3D data, Quanos and KISTERS build technological bridges and bring 3D views from CAD systems to digital spare parts catalogs.
Quanos customers have available the 3D module of Quanos SIS.one, as well as various technologies, including the 3DViewStation WebViewer version from KISTERS. The security of their 3D data is crucial to users, as is efficiency – particularly with large 3D models. This is why technology partners Quanos and KISTERS created a solution that allows large 3D models in spare parts catalogs to be loaded quickly.
Challenge: Large models, long loading times
With technology from KISTERS, the 3D data is processed on a server and streamed to a client. The performance of the client is irrelevant to the display speed of the 3D models. However, practical tests revealed that there was room for improvement in the loading time of large 3D models.
This is because plenty of information is included in the metadata of large 3D models, such as the production date, the designer, and the material of the model. Although these metadata are important for many applications – they are not relevant to the display in the spare parts catalog, and slow down loading times considerably.
The solution: Streamline the data and get rid of excess baggage
To speed up the loading times, the processing of the metadata had to be improved. There is now a new release of the ExportDynamic viewing component of Quanos SIS.one CATALOGcreator, and a new processing script for this.
Unnecessary metadata are now removed. The metadatum required to link a portion of the model to the relevant parts list entry is also automatically entered into an indexed field. This can be the article number, for example.
Because the metadata is streamlined, the 3D data of medium-sized to large assemblies can be loaded up to three times faster. And best of all, the larger the 3D model, the greater the loading time efficiency.
How can customers benefit from fast loading times?
To benefit from these performance improvements, users of Quanos SIS.one CATALOGcreator who process their 3D data with KISTERS, can use the new script. Updating the ExportDynamic to version 3.17 or above is usually all that is required. The script speeds up the processing of the 3D data and also makes it possible, for already existing models, to deposit the metadatum required for linking in the indexed field.
If you are interested in the script and the triple turbo for your 3D data, just get in touch with your contact at Quanos, and in future, you will also be able to use large models quickly and efficiently in your spare parts catalogs.
