Efficiency at bess thanks to standards and SCHEMA ST4

About bess

An owner-managed family business since 1988, the bess group is now a dynamic and growing group of companies headed by the holding company bess AG (Berlin, Germany). Its vision is to offer high-quality yet cost-effective products in the life science sector, and in this way to become the market leader in as many of its fields of activity as possible. At sites in Germany, France and the USA, products in the fields of ENT, head and neck surgery, pneumology and gastroenterology are created - internationally networked and at the same time close to the customer worldwide.

70% reuse rate

Thanks to the high degree of reuse achieved in the project, it is often no longer necessary to write new text for new revisions or variants. Often, instructions can be compiled almost "on the fly" and the translated version is automatically already available. This is also reflected in the documentation situation of the editorial department today: The number of languages to be created and thus the scope of tasks has increased significantly. In addition, the introduction of e-labeling, i.e. instructions for use available online, has added another layout. Unlike the multilingual print documents, bess implements a monolingual layout here with SCHEMA ST4. The bottom line is that bess can now handle more documents with much less effort. The real baptism of fire for SCHEMA ST4 comes with the implementation of the Medical Device Regulation (MDR). The MDR requires new document types for many bess group products. But with a content reuse rate of over 70%, the required documentation can be created in record time.

Ms. Thelen: "For me, it is good to see how smoothly the changeover works and what a high degree of reuse we can achieve even with the new document types. That gives us security for the future."
